Chapter 5: Acceptance

"Luke? What’s going on here?" Mac asked as he walked up to him. Luke was still standing by where he’d found the wallet, unwilling to go back to the bench.

"Lucky’s missing" he said simply.

"How? What happened?"

"According to Miss Webber, Tom Baker tried to attack her again tonight. Lucky defended her and told her to run. She ran into me, and brought me back here, but Lucky is no where to be found".

Mac was about to ask another question when he heard Taggert call to him. He walked over and took a look at what Taggert was pointing at.

"That’s blood" Taggert said, "and an earring".

"Have a sample taken and send it to the lab. I want it compared to Lucky Spencer’s to see if there’s a match. Have his records pulled at GH. Also, bag the earring and a wallet that Luke found."

Taggert nodded his understanding and went about carrying out his orders.

Mac walked back over to Luke, who was now sitting with Liz, comforting her.

"Luke..." Mac began but Luke stopped him.

"They’re his" he simply replied.

Liz looked at the expressions on their faces and said "What?, What did you find?"

"Liz, let me take you home" Luke said, ushering her towards his car.

"Tell me!" she yelled, catching the attention of a couple of the officers.

Both Mac and Luke stayed quiet for a while until finally, it was Luke who spoke.

"Liz, I found Lucky’s earring and his wallet."

"Where?" she asked and before anyone could stop her, she went over to the bench. Luke tried to get to her before she saw the blood stained patch of snow, but was too late.

"No," she said again. "He has to be all right." She started crying again and the stress finally became too much for her. She slumped to the ground and was unconscious before falling into Luke’s arms.

"I’m going to take her home" Luke said and picked her up.

"She’ll need to come by the station tomorrow to give her statement" Mac said.

"She’ll be there" Luke said and walked away.

Mac stood there watching them walk away. Tom Baker had already claimed one victim. Mac made a promise to Liz. He would do everything in his power to find Lucky safe and sound. Tom Baker would not be allowed to claim another victim.
