Chapter 9:

Luke couldn’t believe it. Was his son actually going to go out with Liz? He thought he had always liked Sarah. "Did you just say Elizabeth?" Luke asks.

"Yeah, why?" Lucky asks.

"I thought you liked Sarah. What happened?"

"I did, but she isn’t right for me." Lucky says.

"And Liz is?"

"Yes. She was there for me, dad. I mean, really there. She knows how important Emily is to me. She was so supportive. I never realized how great she really was. And Sarah - Sarah was like I’ve never seen her. She was actually selfish for once. I think it had something to do with Nikolas’ concern for Emily." Lucky tells his dad.

"Nikolas?"

"Yeah. He was worried about someone besides himself and his uncle for once. Imagine that?"

"Yeah. You better go say hi to your mother."

"All right. So can I borrow some money for dinner and a movie?"

"So now it’s dinner and a movie?" Luke says with a smirk.

"Dad!" Lucky exclaims.

Luke hands him some money. "Here you go. Have a good time tomorrow night."

"Thanks." Lucky says as he makes his way into the house. He hears Laura in the kitchen and walks into the kitchen.

Monica brough Emily up to her bedroom and got her into bed. "Now you get some rest. I will see you in the morning. Remember - we love you." Monica tells her.

"I know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I let everyone down." Emily says.

"Stop that. You didn’t. We let you down. Everything is going to be ok, all right?" Monica says.

Just then Alan knocks on the door. "Can I come in?"

"Yes." Emily says.

Alan comes in and walks over to her and gives her a kiss goodnight. "See you in the morning, sweetie. I love you so much. I’m glad to have you home." Alan tells his daughter.

Emily says goodnight and they leave her room. Just as she was about to fall asleep the phone rings. "Hello." Emily says.

"Em, it’s Matt."

Lucky walks over to his mother in the kitchen and gives her a hug.

"Lucky, how are you doing?" Laura asks.

"Ok. Emily was going home tonight. I am going to go see her before my date." Lucky says hoping she wouldn’t say much.

"Date? With who?" Laura asks.

"Liz."

"Really? I like her. She’s a nice girl - very pretty." Laura says with a smile.

"I know, mom." Lucky whispers in embarrassment.

"What do you guys have planned?" Laura asks.

"Oh - mom, do I have to tell you? It’s a good thing I’m picking her up so you guys don’t embarrass me." Lucky says.

########################################################################

"Gram, I am going to go upstairs and call it a night." Liz tells her Grandma.

"Ok. How’s lucky holding up?" Audrey asks.

"Ok. Listen, is it ok if I go out with Lucky tomorrow night?" Liz asks.

"Sure. Go out as in a date?" Audrey asks with a smile.

"Yeah." Liz smiles back as she heads up the stairs.

Sarah goes and sits next to her Grandmother on the couch. "Oh, Gram." Sarah says.

"What is it? You can talk to me."

"I don’t know what’s gotten into me. I was so selfish tonight. I didn’t even care about Emily. All I cared about was how she was getting all the attention. And Liz - how can Lucky like her?" Sarah says.

"Sarah, come on. Liz deserves to be with him if that’s what they want. Lucky is a nice boy. Sarah, are you rethinking your feelings about Lucky?"

"No! I don’t know. Gram, I love Nikolas. Why would I be jealous of Liz? That doesn’t make sense. If I only wanted friendship out of Lucky why does it bother me?" Sarah asks.

Before her Grandmother could speak the phone rings. "I’ll get it." Sarah says. "Hello."

"Sarah, it’s Nikolas."
