Chapter Two:

Emily had been gone for a week and now she was returning, returning to marry her ex-husband she was sure she was falling in love with all over again even though she was sure he could never love her again. How could he love a woman that left him and gave him no explanation. She had lied and said she fell out of love. It wasn’t true, she left because she was afraid he would never understand that she couldn’t give him a child, she couldn’t conceive.

Emily walked into the Terminal and their Lucky was with Jeffrey in his arms. Emily walked over to them. "Hi." She said as she smiled at Jeffrey.

"Look Jeffy, there’s Emmy, theirs your new Mommy." Lucky looked up at Emily and smiled.

"Thank you again for doing this. You really don’t have to."

"I want to." She said.

"Well do you have any other bags?"

"No just this. I pack light."

"Since when?"

"Since I got sick of taking four suitcases with me to London three times a year, or wherever I go."

"Well then let’s go."

They drive back to the house in almost complete silence the only sound is the radio playing a song from when they were teenagers. Lucky naturally turns it up when he realizes what song it is.

"If I could tell the world just one thing
it would be that we're all o.k.
And not to worry
cause worry is wasteful
And unless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I wont be idled with dispair
I will gather myself around my faith
for light does the darkness most fear"

"My hands are small, I know,
but they're not yours they are my own
but they're not yours they are my own
and I am never broken"

"Poverty stole your golden shoes
but it didn't steel your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
but i knew it wasnt ever after"

"We'll fight, not out of spite
for someone must stand up for what's right
cause where there's a man who has no voice
there our's shall go singing"

"My hands are small, i know,
but they're not yours they are my own
but they're not yours they are my own
and I am never broken"

"In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters"

"I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray"

"My hands are small, I know,
but they're not yours they are my own
but they're not yours they are my own
and I am never broken"

"My hands are small, i know,
but they're not yours they are my own
but they're not yours they are my own
and I am never broken
We are never broken"

"We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
God's hands
God's hands"

Lucky parked the car in the drive way and Emily got out and Lucky took Jeffrey our of the car seat. They went inside and Emily closed her eyes as she looked around the foyer. A week ago she hadn’t paid attention to what it or any of the other rooms looked like. None of the rooms she saw had been redecorated in the eight years since she left. However she was certain he had re-done his bedroom.
"I’m going to take this little guy upstairs so he can get some sleep." He begins up the stairs and halfway up turns and looks at her. "The Justice of the peace will be here in an hour and a half. Can you be ready by then?"

"Yeah." She said softly and then thinking to herself, If I had to I’d be ready in five minutes. When she looks up again he’s gone. She takes her bag and goes upstairs to her room. She unpacks her bag and takes out a white suit. She looks at it and smiles. She lay’s it on the bed and goes into her bathroom and showers. When she returns to her room she looks at the suit. She dresses and then studies her image in the full length floor mirror.

As she studied the image of herself someone knocked on her door. She opened it only a few inches and saw Lucky standing there.

"The Justice of the Peace is here." He said with a voice wavering from nervousness.

"Alright." She said as she opened the door wider, and revealed her image to Lucky.

Lucky’s heart jumped when he saw the white suit hugging her body. "Um uh let’s go."

"Yeah we don’t want this to take longer then it has to."

"Yeah." He said saddened by her comment but believe she was only doing this for Elizabeth and Nikolas.

As the ceremony went on Lucky was about to scream, all he wanted to do was yell. His mind kept saying it over and over again. Emily I love you I always have, always will and nothing in this world can stop that. But he couldn’t say it. He couldn’t let him fell the pain of her turning to look at him and say something like Lucky I’m only doing this for Nik and Liz.

As Emily mindlessly said her vows she wanted to jump up and run out of the room, out of this house, out of this world and go back to San Francisco where she knew she would be safe. Safe away from the pain of Loving a man she knew couldn’t love her after she left him. Emily had been so caught up in thought that she didn’t hear the Justice pronounce them Husband and Wife.

Lucky puts his hands on Emily’s shoulders softly and kisses her lightly on the lips. He pulls away before he can be there too long. He smiles and turns to the Justice. "I’ll walk you our sir." Lucky leaves walking the Justice of the Peace out and Emily stood there alone in the room looking around.

Emily walks over to the fire place and looks at the picture frames and she sees a picture of her and Lucky the last nurse’s ball they were married at. She picks up the frame and traces the image of Lucky holding her so close to him. Aching in her heart of hearts for him to walk right into this room and take her in his arms and make love to her.

Emily heard the doors close and she turned around and Saw Lucky.

"Hi." Was all she could say.

"Well were married. Basically legal." He said.

"Basically?" She asked

"Well we could always get an annulment in two years."

"An Annulment? Why?"

"No sex."

"Oh, well who knows what happens in two years. I’m sure sexual tension will arise and we’ll end up together in bed at least once." Emily turned back to the fireplace and looked and the picture. She should tell him she thought. Tell him every damn thing.

Lucky put a hand on her shoulder and she turned to face him again. He leaned in closer and kissed her, this time it last not a few seconds but as long as he could take it before he would do anything else. Emily kissed him back and wrapped her arms around him tightly, He picked her up and carried her out of the room and upstairs. At first Emily’s mind raced with the idea, He’s taking me to his bed. I’ll really be his wife. However when Lucky placed Emily down it was in her room on her bed. Lucky undressed her and planted kisses along her body.

Lucky and Emily made quick sloppy love. It was not how either ever imagined or fantasized about the next time they would make love. Emily feel asleep in his arms, knowing in her heart she had wanted to make love to him but not in this sloppy way just so they could make sure a marriage she was sure he didn’t really want was legal.

Emily woke up a few hours later and Lucky was gone. She looked around the room and began crying she rolled over and buried her head in the pillow and sobbed. After sobbing for a good forty minutes she sat up and got dressed and left the room. She walked down the hall to Jeffrey’s room. Lucky wasn’t around so she snuck inside.

"Hi Jeffrey, I’m Emily but you already know that. I bet Lucky’s told you what’s going on. Though I’m sure it makes no sense. Ya want the truth? You’re my only shot at mother hood. I can’t have any kids of my own. That’s why I left, I couldn’t hurt Lucky any more by not giving him the thing he wanted most. A child." She picked Jeffrey up and put him on her lap. "Your such a sweetie, I love you already. I love Lucky to, I never stopped, I never will stop. If only I could tell him I’ve known I couldn’t have a child of my own since we were seventeen. Since the car accident. I still remember Dr. Scanlon telling me I could never have children. When Lucky and I were first married I told him we were to young to start our family, we had just graduated from High School. I wanted to have his baby, I still do but, it’s not going to happen."

Emily yawned and so did Jeffery, she put him back in the crib and left the room.

Lucky sat up in bed the moment he realized he wasn’t dreaming about hearing Emily’s voice. He looked over at the baby monitor and listened to her tell Jeffrey, he was her only shot at mother hood. Lucky didn’t understand but as he listened to the rest of the one sided conversation he saw apart of the woman he loved that he hadn’t seen in years. As Emily went on about how she had been afraid to tell Lucky the truth he felt tears building in his eyes.

He wanted to go in their, take her in his arms and just hold her. Hold her and tell her it was alright. He understood, but wished she had just told him. He hears Emily leave and he sits there in his bed crying. Never knowing until this moment how much he loved her and she loved him.

The next morning Emily went downstairs into the kitchen and found Lucky making breakfast and Jeffrey sitting in the high chair.

"Hey you." She said to Jeffrey as she sat down.

Jeffrey giggled with glee and then looked over curiously at Lucky. Even though he was a young child he could sense something going on between the two.

"What do you have planned for the day Em?" Lucky asked.

"Never really thought about it. Maybe taking Jeffrey to the park for some fresh air."

"Sounds like a plan, You should stop by Kelly’s afterwards for some chili."

"You still the cook?"

"Yes."

"Well then I will most defiantly have to stop by with this little cutie."
