Chapter 18: Liz was shocked to see her family there so soon. Her mouth hung open in astonishment as Sarah wrapped her arms around
Liz, "It's good to see you Liz!" Had Sarah completely forgotten the terms they had parted on. They
were barely being civil to each other. Now here she was, embracing liz as if they were the
best of friends. "I'm so sorry about Gram, Liz," Sarah continued,"It's
too bad I wasn't here." Liz noticed the false sincerity in sarah's vioce. She detangled
herslef from Sarah's grasp. She hadn't even greeted her parents yet. But they weren't even
glancing her way. Caroline Webber was looking at Nikolas appreciatively. "You must be
the boyfriend Liz was telling us about. Liz, you should have mentioned how handsome he
was!" Nickolas blushed, but looked shocked at Carolines lack of, well,
decency. "Mother," Liz said through gritted teeth,"This is
Nickolas, Lucky's brother. Lucky is still in the hospital here. Nickolas, I'd like you to
meet my family. Caroline Webber my mother, and Jeff Webber my father. You know Sarah of
course." "Please to meet you Mr. and Mrs.Webber. Nice to see you again
Sarah," Nik said politely. Sarah however seemed to read a little too much into that
greeting. She grinned happily,"Hello Nickolas." "What are you doing here so soon?" Liz asked abruptly. "We were able to get away early," her father said. He
looked over his daughter. Being here PC had obviously been good for her. She wasn't
wearing the skimpy outfits she preferred last time he saw her. "Grams funeral is in two days. Nik has been helping me with the
arrangements. Dad, it would be appreciated if you would act as a pallbearer." "Of course Liz," Jeff nodded, "You have everyhting
arranged?" Liz nodded, "It's all been taken care of. The execution of the
will hasn't happened yet, Alexis Davis has been made executor and it will be read
following the funeral." {Authors note: Alexis was the only lawyer {besides Dara and Justus,
but they wuldn't fit} I could think of} Caroline interrupted, "It was very nice of Nicklas to help you
Liz, but why wasn't your, ahem, boyfriend helping you? He should be there for you during
this ordeal." Liz saw red, "Mother dear, did you not hear a word I said on
teh phone? Lucky just had a transplant for God's sake!" Jeff frowned, "About that Liz, are you sure you made the right
decision about your grandmother? From what you told us she had been out only a short time,
maybe she would have woken up. Did you let your concedrn for your boyfriend
interfere?" "Dad, how could you say a thing like that? I loved Gram. SHe
was brain dead, do you know what that means? She wouldn't have woken up. Ever." Liz
was offended he would think she'd do such a thing. "Don't throw a fit dear," Caroline admonished. "Your
father is upset, she was his mother you know." Liz did not mention the fact that if he felt so strongly why had he
ahd only minimal contact all these years? Nikolas broke into their family "discussion". "I'll
just go say goodbye to Lucky and be on my way. Father will be expecting me back
soon." "Father?" Sarah asked confused,"I thought your father
was dead." "No, as it turns out Stefan is my father." "Oh my! I'vr missed so much since I left PC. LEt me take you to
your car Nikolas and you can fill me all in." Sarah said. Nik threw a panicked glance at Liz but Caroline agreed,"Yes, do
go with Nickolas dear. We want to go meet Liz's boyfriend." Sarah gleefully pulled Nik away. "Well, shall we meet this Lucky?" Jeff asked. Liz glanced concerned at Lucky's room, she did not feel like dealing
with this right now. "He may not be in the mood." "To meet us, honestly Liz. We'll just say hello, nice to meet
you and all," Caroline said innocently. Liz sighed, knowing it was inevitable, "Okay, let's go in." |
