Chapter 17: The next day Nik came over to help Liz with funeral plans for
Audrey. They had made most of the plans, but still needed to get some
details taken care of. "Pallbearers?" Nik asked. "Oh man, I don't know. Would you be a pallbearer?" Liz
didn't know what to do, she wished her parents would come. Despite the fact she still,
well, disliked them, they should come to Audrey's funeral. Unfortunately, they would
arrive just in time for the funeral. Liz was not looking forward to it. On the phone call to Europe she
ahd left out the fact she was pregnant and living with her boyfriend. "Okay Liz, but we still need more then one pallbearer,
unfortunately I can't carry the casket by myself." "How about your father? He was part of GH where GBram
worked?" "I'm sure I can talk him into it. WHo else though?" Liz sighed, "Um, well maybe Luke, we'll just put him and Stefan
on different sides. How about Tony, maybe Alan?" "Well, that's five," Nik said, counting the names on the
list. "Well, if my parents get here in time my dad can do it. If not,
well you guys better buff up." Nik laughed, "Thats about all I need your help for. Oh wait,
are you going to do a eulogy at the funeral?" Liz hadn't thought about that. Get up in front of a large group of
people and try not to break down while talking about waht a great person her granmother
was? But who else would do it? Sarah was coming with her parents but she had been away for
so long. Her parents hadn't seen Gram in how many years? She guessed it was up to her. "Yeah Nickolas, I will. Do you think you can arrange all this
in two days?" Nik nodded, "Sure Liz, no sweat. Are you going to see Lucky
now?" Liz nodded, "Yeah." "Let me give you a ride on my way back to the launch." Nik
offered. "THanks Nik. Too bad my wages at Kelly's can't buy me
JAg." Liz said, laughingly. "Yeah well, you'll need everyhting you can get for you, Lucky
and the baby on the way." Liz felt forced to make a giulty admission, "I'm sorta hoping
Gram left me some cash in her will. My parents aren't going to be exactly supportive when
they find out about this." "You didn't tell them when they called?" Nik asked
incredulously. "And let them fan their anger all the way over here? Nuh huh.
I'll break the news when they get here. All they know is, Grams dead and I have a serious
boyfriend who's Grams organs helped save. It will be hard enought o convince tehm i just
didn't kill off gram to let Lucky live." "Come on, they can't be that bad," Nik scoffed. "You've never emt them Nik. Besides, you thought Sarah was bad
before? Now she'll be here chasing after you with the full support of my parents. You are
part of a very influential family after all. Sarah is their pride and joy, they want the
very best for her." Liz was dead serious. She just hoped they could all survive the
onslaught of ehr parents. "Let's go to the hospital Liz, you need to warn Lucky."
Nik said, only half-joking. *********************************************** Lucky's hospital room was crammed full of flowers. Everywhere you
loooked there was a Get Well! bouqeut. Lucky peeked out from all the clutter. "Well if it isn't the mother of my child and Prince
Nikky!" he said. Nik scowled good-naturedly,"See you're back in form
Spencer." "Of course, didn't think I'd be out of it forever did
you?" Lucky said. Liz and Nik immediately thought of how close they'd come to ahving
Lucky "be out of it forever". "Come, don't look so serious! I am in a glorious mood. They are
letting me go home tomorrow, on the condition I stay in bed however." Lucky was in no
mood to be somber. {Authors note: I know transplant patients never go home this early,
I just needed him to be able to go to Audrey's funeral later.} "That's great Lucky," Liz exclaimed. "I'll make your
favorite supper and everyhthing." "Takeout?" Lucky asked, adn they all laughed. A nurse came into the room, "SOrry, but you guys need to leave
for about 10 minutes. Mr.Spencer here needs his shots and everyhting.' "We'll be back Lucky," Liz promised. "Be sure to jab him extra hard." she whispered loudly to
the nurse on their way out. "Hey!" Lucky objected as they left. When they were seated out in the chiars outside Lucky's room Nik
said,"Great to see him better isn't it?" Liz smiled,"Yeah, and going home tomorrow. THis'll be great.
You are cordially invited for Lucky's welocme home supper tomorrow Nik." Nik was about to say somehting when he was interrupted by someone
shouting, "Liz!" Both Liz and Nik turned to see Sarah, walking up, followed by her parents. |
