CHAPTER FOUR

"I didn't know you felt that bad about it."

"Elizabeth, after our fight, who wouldn't?  I mean we were talking about getting intimate and I knew the idea freaked you out still."

"I pushed you away."

"I'm not blaming you."

"You should."

Lucky paused, "What?"

"I said you should, lucky.  Things aren't the way you think they are."

"..... Then how are they?"

Elizabeth looked at Lucky, "You can trust me Elizabeth, whatever you have hidden with you, it might be better if you tell someone.   You know, get it out of your
system."

"I'm just afraid of losing you Lucky.   I know for far apart we are now, but at least you still talk to me.  After this, you.... you won't even look at me."

Liz looked at Lucky, "If I tell you, can I leave right away.  I mean, I'm sure you wouldn't want me around...."

"Elizabeth, just say it."

Elizabeth looked down at her hands, "After our argument, when you left to go to that party, I walked around town for almost the whole night.  By the time I got
home, it was midnight, and Gram was at some conference.  So I was alone.  At..... at one.. or two.. I was still up, and Tim Grimes came to my door."

"Tim, the guy from your science class."

"Yeah, that's him.  He was at that party, that you were at, and I guess he heard about you and me."

"What was he doing at your place?"

"I don't know.... he was drunk.   Definitely.  I could smell it..... we somehow ended up upstairs, near the guest room.  He pulled me into the room so hard, that it caught me off balance, and I fell ..... I fell into his arms.  He wouldn't-- he didn't let me go that night."

"Elizabeth--"

"I'm sorry." she told him, "After our fight, you... we fought about being intimate and the night you leave, I slept with some guy.  When I found out about Melissa, I
wasn't mad..... I was hurt, and sad that we could do this to one another."

"So this is why you forgave me, but never got back together with me. G*d, Elizabeth, why didn't you tell me!"

"I think that I should go and pack. I don't think you--- I don't think I should stay here anymore."

Lucky didn't answer so she left to go to her room as Lucky sat and thought about what Liz had told him.  And what he was going to do about it.

**************************************************************

"Elizabeth?" Lucky called knocking on the door, "Can I come in?"

He needed to see her, needed to know why this didn't make sense in his mind.  He knew her too well, and she was hiding something, "Elizabeth?" he opened the door and found her packing.

"I don't want to talk about anything Lucky, just let me go." she told him, closing her bags.

"No." Liz looked at him, "What are you running away from Elizabeth?  You told me what happened so there can't be anything else."

"I have to go."

"It doesn't make sense Elizabeth.  I find you outside of Kelly's in the rain.  You pushed me away then like you're doing now.  I bring you here and you won't believe
that I do love you."

"How could you?  After what I did?"

"Did you?  I'm beginning to wonder if you did.  There's pain in betraying someone, but when I look at you Elizabeth, the pain is so much deeper.  Please, tell me
what's wrong. You--- you didn't invite him did you."

"Invite?"

"Let him pull you into the guest room, let him touch you like that... Elizabeth..."

Elizabeth looked away, "Did he.... did he hurt you?  Was he forceful on you?"  Lucky asked, knowing what the answer could be.

"I'm going to go now." Liz said picking up her bags and started to walk out the door.

"Elizabeth." he said grabbing her arm.  She dropped her bags and collapsed, but Lucky caught her, "Honey..." he whispered softly as he held her close, "it's okay....
Shh... you're safe now... you're safe with me." he told her as she cried.
