Chapter 23: A Silent Plea

Lucky rushed Tom and managed to pin him to the floor.
“How could you?!?” Lucky yelled. “How could you hurt her like that. Why?”
Tom freed one of his hands and swung at Lucky. The blow connected and sent Lucky
flying off of Tom.
Lucky lashed out with his foot, before Tom had the chance to get up. He was rewarded
with a grunt and blood pouring out of Tom’s nose.
Lucky got up and went to stand beside him. “You will never hurt her again” Lucky said
and began to kick Tom. He felt absolutely no remorse. No guilt. He was just angry.
A few kicks connected, but Tom managed to grab Lucky’s foot and pull him down to the
floor. They struggled, and Lucky managed a few more hits, but Tom was bigger and
stronger.
He managed to pin Lucky underneath him. Tom’s knees were holding Lucky’s legs down,
and his left hand had both of Lucky’s arms pinned on the floor, above his head.

Lucky looked at Tom’s eyes and saw the insanity there. Tom leaned down towards him,
and for a split second, Lucky though Tom would do to him what he’d done to Elizabeth.
‘Oh, God. Please help me’ he though.
He was paralyzed. He couldn’t move. Never before in his life had he felt the terror
he was feeling now.
Tom saw the fear in Lucky’s eyes and knew what he was thinking. He leaned down until
his lips were next to Lucky’s ear. “You’re dead” he said.

The blow came so fast, that Lucky didn’t even see Tom get up and swing.
They kept coming. Lucky felt as if his head was going to split wide open. He tried to
move, but Tom was too heavy and he couldn’t shake him off. he had to lay there,
letting Tom hit him, over and over.

His world was spinning. He failed to notice anything but the pain. He didn’t notice
Tom getting up either, until he felt Tom’s foot connect with his abdomen. Tom kept
kicking.
‘God, make it stop’ Lucky though. ‘Please, let me die now’.
God wasn’t going to help him, though. Not tonight.

Tom was beyond reason. He saw Lucky on the ground and heard him yell. He saw his foot
repeatedly connect with Lucky’s body, but didn’t want to stop. He wanted Lucky dead.
He watched Lucky try to shield his body with his arms and hands, but Tom kicked them
too. He felt no remorse, just anger. He wanted revenge.
How could this little twerp think he could hit him? What gave him the right? Tom’s
face was bleeding, so he knew that Lucky had done some damage. That made Tom hate
Lucky even more.

He heard a sound outside, like a door close. That was unusual. No one knew he was
here.
He went over to the window and looked out.
‘Damn” he thought. He saw the limo and knew he’d been found.

Lucky felt Tom stop, and walk away. He tried to move, but his body refused.

He felt Tom lift him by the back of his shirt. Lucky just went along with it. He
couldn’t do anything even if he tied. He felt Tom put one hand over his mouth and
felt a cold tip on his throat.
‘The knife’ Lucky thought.
“You’re friends are here” Tom said, and noticed that Lucky was slowly slipping to the
ground. “I have a steel blade at your throat, so if you want to avoid a very
primitive tracheotomy, you’ll stay up and walk”.

‘Friends?’ Lucky thought. ‘Who?. He wants me to walk? I can barely stand up’.
Lucky felt Tom pushing him forward, and tried his best to walk. Tom ended up having
to drag him forward.
There was some rustling, and then a rush of cold air hit him, making him gasp
involuntarily.

Sonny, Luke, and Nikolas stepped out of the limo.
“I don’t see the truck” Sonny said.
“Maybe it’s around the back. These tracks are fresh”.

They were interrupted by the opening of the front door. Luke looked up first and
gasped.

There stood Tom, holding Lucky in front of him like a shield, a knife to his throat.
Luke looked at his son. ‘Oh, god’ he thought.
Lucky’s face was covered in blood. His eyes were shut, and beginning to swell. He
could see blood coming from between the fingers of the hand Tom held over Lucky’s
mouth, so he knew the lips were probably swelling too.
Lucky looked like he could barely stay up, and would fall to the ground at any
moment.

Without thinking, Luke pulled his gun and aimed at Tom.
“I would be careful, if I were you” Tom said. “Unless you want me to slit his throat.
Put it up, Spencer”.
Luke hesitated, but put the gun up when Tom dug the knife deeper into Lucky’s throat,
causing him to groan.
Tom moved closer to the edge of the porch, to where the steps were.

‘Spencer?’ Lucky though. ‘Dad?’. He tried to open his eyes to see who was here, but
couldn’t.

“You’re caught. Let him go” Luke said.
“No! I’m not finished with him yet” Tom said.
“He’s just a child, please let him go” Luke pleaded. He was loosing it. He was afraid
that Lucky would pass out and fall to the ground, causing Tom to use the knife.

“Stop right there!” Tom yelled, when he noticed Sonny edging closer.
Sonny stopped in this tracks.

“It’s too late, you know. He’s just about dead. Too bad you couldn’t join the party
sooner” Tom said and threw Lucky down the stairs. He moved to the opposite side of
the porch and jumped over the railing, taking off into the woods.

Sonny raced after him, along with the driver, while Luke and Nikolas went over to
Lucky.
“Stay with him” Luke said and took off after Sonny and Tom.

********

“Lucky?” Nikolas said as he reached his brother. He turned Lucky over and was shocked
at the extent of his injuries. There was so much blood....
He placed Lucky’s head on his lap and soothingly talked to him.
“Lucky, it’s Nikolas” he said. “You’re ok now, but I need you to hang on, ok? I need
you to stay with me, until the ambulance comes. Will you do that?”

No response from Lucky. Nikolas could tell he was still breathing. He tried to get
Lucky higher on his lap, and was rewarded with a groan. He decided not to move him
anymore

‘Nikolas?’ Lucky thought. ‘What’s he doing here?... Stay awake?.... I don’t want to
be awake, it hurts too much. I want to go..... I’m so tired..... maybe if I just let
go, I’ll feel better’.

Nikolas felt Lucky relaxing, and knew he had to keep him awake. “Lucky, stay with me
damn it!” he shook him, and was relieved when Lucky groaned again.
“No.....” Lucky managed to say, very softly. So soft, that Nikolas thought he had
imagined it. “No....” Lucky said again.

‘Why can’t he just leave me alone? Why must he always be such a pain? All I want to
do is sleep, why won’t he let me?’

Nikolas saw Lucky slipping away and felt totally helpless. He’d never had to do
anything like this. He had no idea what to do. How do you keep someone from dying?

“Listen to me Spencer, and listen good. You are not going to die, you hear me! You
have people back home who love you and are waiting for you to come home. You will not
disappoint them. Not your mother or sister. Not your girlfriend, who has been through
hell already. You will not abandon her! You will not abandon me!”.
Where had that come from? Nikolas didn’t care. It’s what he felt, and if he didn’t
say it now, he might never get the chance.
“I love you, Lucky. I want to get to know you. You can’t die now...” he broke off as
he heard sirens getting closer and closer.
