Chapter 13

Sam grabbed her suitcase from the floor of her closet and tossed it on her bed. She didn’t care what Lucky thought. She was going to go and be with him when he really needed her. Besides, if he really was dying then she had to be there. She loved him way to much to allow him to slip away like this.

Lucky stared at the ceiling in his room. The white was somewhat soothing in the dark. Darkness—something he would be come very well acquainted with if things went how he expected. Someone knocked on his door softly. "Come in." He said with curiosity not sure who would know the sound of a regular knock would hurt his pounding head.

The door opened slowly and Emily stepped in. She looked over at him and gave him a soft, friendly smile. "Hey Spencer, how ya feeling?"

"Like my head’s about to explode."

"I’m sorry." She said as she closed the door.

"It’ll all be over soon." He said as she sat down on the bed.

Emily poked his leg and said, "Don’t talk like that Lucky."

"It’s the truth though Em. I’m dying—even if I don’t want to die. I’m afraid to die." He said pleadingly.

"I know, death is probably the scariest thing in the world. But I refuse to believe you will die."

"Why is that Emily?" he asked her.

"Because I don’t want you to. You’re my best friend. No matter what’s happened I refuse to believe I’m gonna lose you again. Besides you’re a Spencer, you’re strong."

"I guess, but if I am going to die, I am going to die, and there isn't a thing I can do to change that."

"Lucky, you don't know what's going to happen, so for now just think positively."

"Yeah, positive, I don't know if I can do that."

"Try."

The next day Sam walked into the Port Charles Hotel looking for a room for the night. She wanted to see Lucky as soon as possible, but she felt that she should get a room someplace else so that Lucky could get away from his family. She knew how much that had to be driving him crazy.

She went to the front desk and asked the manager if he had and rooms available. When he told her the cost she told him she couldn’t afford it and started to walk out. As she did so she walked right into AJ Quartermaine. "Watch where you’re going buddy." She said to him.

"I’m sorry. I had something else on my mind." He confessed. AJ was intrigued by her but he wasn’t sure what it was. "I’m AJ Quartermaine, my family owns this hotel."

"Oh," She said as she looked AJ up and down, "Now I understand the outlandish rates. You’ve got to have the most expensive suits."

"The price is worth it." He told her still trying to figure out what it was about her that got to him.

"I’ve got to go find a reasonably priced place to say. See ya."

"Good bye, I have a feeling I’ll be seeing you again."

"Whatever." Sam said as she left the hotel.

AJ watched her walk away still trying to figure it out.

Sam wound up on the docks and found Kelly’s. She went in and talked Tammy and was able to get a room. When she was in her room she found the phone and called Lucky. "Hey Lucky it’s Sam."

"Sam where are you? The connection is actually decent." He said to her through the phone.

"Me? I’m in this room I rented in this down called Port Charles." She braced herself for what she expected to come next.

"But Sam, I told you not to come out here." He told her.

"Since when do I ever listen to a thing you say Spencer?"

"Sam, you didn’t have to come." He reminded her.

"I know, I didn’t come because I had to, I came because I wanted to."

"We’ll you’re here it is better then having you on the other side of the country."

"Good, I knew you would see things my way." She told him and they continued to talk.
