Chapter 29: Lucky woke up in a bed not his own. He strangely felt no pain at
all, despite his run in wiht Moreno adn then the other problems. He glanced around hte
room adn realized he was at GH. Luke sat in a chair by his bed, he was stareing intently at Lucky. "SO Cowboy, you're finally awake. You gave us all quite a
scare." Luke however wasn't smiling. Lucky's throat felt sore, but he managed to croak
out."Elizabeth?" "She's here, adn worried to death I might add. I won't let her
in to see you until I've said my peice." Luke stood up adn walked over to the bed. He
stared down at Lucky, trying to itimidate him. "What the hell were you thinking Lucky!" he exploded,
"Bobbie told you plenty of bedrest, but no, you're Mr.Invincible! You're fortunate
that Jason came to look for you when you didn't check in with him and got you here so
fast. He brought you here to Gh after he found you lying there unconsious. How could you
get involved in a dangerous situation like that! First of all, you needed to be resting
from surgery, adn plus, getting involved with gangsters is not a good way to secure a
future for a child!" Lucky tried to protest, but Luke cut him off with a wave of his
hand, "HOw could you do this to all of us, Elizabeht especially. Dammit Lucky, we
almost lost you once, we don't want it to happen again. Bobbie assured us that with the
right meds, adn plenty of bedrest this time, your problems with the transplant should
subside." "Now Lucky, I'm going to let Elizabeth in here soon, but you
have to understand this can't happen again. Moreno already knows who you are, don't
provoke him any more. You have a great girlfriend and a baby on the way, plus a second
chance at life, don't blow it or I'll kill you myself." Lucky realized hte truth of Luke's words, but how could he give up a
job that paid so well? He needed to be able to support his family, one way or another. Luke exited the room as Liz entered, she looked worried. He held out his arms to her and she rushed into them. "I was so
worried." she said into his shoulder, "I'd thought I'd lost you again." "Elizabeth, honey," he rasped out, lifting ehr head and
looking into her eyes,"YOu will never lose me again. I'm going to stick around
forever." Liz pulled away, "How could you risk our future like that
Lucky? Why would you risk your life?" "Liz, I did it for our future, don't you see? We need the cash,
and this is good money." Liz replied emphatically, "It's not worht it Lucky! Nothing is
worht you getting killed." "But Liz......" "Don't even try to rationalize this Lucky, I mean it. Give it
up. I want my child to have a father, a life of crime is not the way to go to secure
that." Liz turned to look out the window,"I've found a second job at an art
gallery Lucky, this will provide us with a more steady income." "Liz, this was waht I wanted to avoid. You can't handle a
second job, you can't be constantly on your feet and stressed out with the baby coming. I
won't risk the life of our child." Liz whirled around, "So you'll risk your life instead? I need
yu around Lucky, our baby will too. I can handle the job Lucky, it's not like I'm working
as a construction worker. My boss knows I'll have to take a maternity leave when the baby
comes, but she's an old friend of Grams and knows my passion for art." "But Liz, I can support us this way, it'll provide us with more
security." Lucky tried to make her see his point. Liz scoffed at his suggestion, "Security? Fear of you being
shot or beaten again, that's security? I will not elt you do this Lucky, and don't think
the rest of your family will support that decision." "I know," Lucky mumbled, "I heard the speal from ym
father." "Yeah, but did he tell you everyhting? That your mother is out
there, under so much stress and worry her hairs turning gray? That your little sister
wants to know why her bog brother is sick again? That your big brother is worried as hell
about your health adn is threatening to send the force of the Cassadines after Moreno and
his men? They all love you Lucky, and don't deserve to see you hurt yourself adn them this
way." Liz took his hand, "Don't you see waht tis will do to everyone if ti
continues?" Lucky reluctantly agreed, "Fine, I'll quit. Besides, it's not
like Jason or Sonny will let me do anyhting after my father speaks to them." Liz hugged him, "Thanks Lucky, I knew you would
understand." "Yeah, but what am I supposed to do now?" Lucky couldn't
think of where he could work. "You are going to rest adn get all better, and then when that happens we'll find you some sort of job. But first, it's bedrest, or you'll have a whole line-up of people to kill you, me first." Liz smiled. |
