Chapter 26: Elizabeth's eyes stared into his, a shocked look on her face. For
the first time since he started this proposal he began to feel some uncertaincy. He hurried on,"As I said before, I know we're young, but I've
never been so sure of anything in my life. I'm sorry that I cna't provide a life of luxury
for you and our child but I'll do my best to make sure it has a happy secure home. I would
like to make it so he had two married parents, but that's just me. If you don't want to
get married, that's fine with me, in fact maybe that's best. Yeah, i'm sorry I
even...." Liz put her hand over his mouth before he could ramble any
more,"Lucky, shut up." With that, she leaned over and kissed him squarely on the mouth.
Lucky didn't even have time to respond to her kiss before she pulled away. He stared at her with such a joyous expressiion on his face, her
eyes misted over. Damn, if she kept this up the kleenex company was going to make a
fortune off of her. "You mean you'll marry me, you'll be my wife?" Lucky asked
in wondrous disbelief. Lucky let out a whoop of joy. He picked Liz up in his arms and swung
her exuberently around the room. Elizabeth laughed, but then became worried. "Lucky come on, put me down. You had surgery not to long ago,
you're supposed to be in bed, not lifting me." she reminded him, already acting like
a mother hen. He reluctantly set her down on the ground, but didn't release her.
"You don't know how happy you've just made me." "I bet I do," she replied, grinning. "If it's a
quarter of teh joy I feel, it's a lot." "Mrs. Lucas Lorenzo Spencer," he said, testing the name,
his lips millimeters from hers, "I like the sound of that." "Uh huh," she said, closing the distance between them. They stood there in the study, kissing for God knows how long. At
first it was gentle, but became more urgent each time their lips touched. Lucky pulled away first, "As much as I'd like to continue,
we're in my aunt's house with guests just outside the door." Liz agreed reluctantly, "I know, but I say we leave as soon as
we can." "Not a bad idea," Lucky grinned, leaning over to kiss her
again. They forgot everyhting but each other. A discreet cough broke into
their reverie. THey pulled away to find Bobbie there, a bemused expression on her
face, "I was sent to see of you guys were coming back." "Thanks aunt Bobbie," Lucky said,"Tell everyone we'll
be there in a minute." Bobbie nodded, grinning knowingly as she shut the door behind her.
Liz felt so embarrased. SHe hid her face in Lucky's chest. "Of all the times..." "Don't worry, Bobbie understands," Lucky said,"she's
not one to lecture on propriety." "still.." Liz said, pulling away, not wanting someone else
to cathc them. Lucky got serious,"Liz, about you marrying me. I know I can
give us a home, but it won't be all that luxurious. I want to be able to give you all the
luxury you deserve, but we won't be rich." Liz laughed,"Lucky, I don't care about 'luxury'. I would live
in your old boxcar as long as it was with you. You know the saying 'home is where the
heart is'? Well, guess waht, I have my home, it's standing before me." Lucky looked doubtful, but didn't press. "Liz, but no matter
waht I promise you this. I will love you till death do us part. I will cherish you adn our
child. I promise to protect you with all that I am." "No way," Liz said indignantly. "Huh?" Lucky asked, confused. "You got it backwards Buster, I'm going to protect you. Dn't go
getting all caveman on me now." she grinned, pulling away and heading for the door. Lucky just laughed and followed her out. THe room had nearly emptied save a few more people. Nik sat on the
couch, drinking a cup of coffee. Luke and Laura stood by the fireplace, talking quietly,
Lulu was chasing Bobbie's son Lucas around the room while Bobbie looked on. Stefan was
there as well in the couch across from Nokolas, looking decidedly out of place among the
family. "Should we tell them?" Lucky whispered in her ear. Liz shook her head,"Nah, let's keep it to ourselves for
awhile." Lucky was about to say more, but Luke's voice interrupted him,
"Everythign all right son" "Just fine dad, Liz and I were just talking." Lucky said,
then under his breath to Elizabeth," and a little bit more." She giggled, causing everyone to look at her. She blushed
self-consiosly adn shot and accusing glare at Lucky. "I'll just get my coat Lucky, then we can go," she said,
adn left for the bedroom where Bobbie had tossed everyone's jacket. Nik walked over to where Lucky was standing alone. "Why do you look like that cat who's swallowed the
canary?" Nik asked quietly,"If you grinned any wider your face would
break." "She agreed to marry me," Lucky replied happily. "Congratulations bro," Nik said,"She liked the
ring?" Lucky nodded,"Yeah, thanks for going to pick it up for
me." "It was no problem. How did the reading of the will go?" Lucky shrugged,"Well, Liz's parents acted like total jacka$$es,
no surprise there, when they saw Liz inherited the house and some srious cash." Nik nodded,"I saw them come storming out of there adn then take
off. Liz really inherited teh house and all? Sarah must have been mad." Lucky shook his head,"No she's been really accepting throuhg
this whole thing. SHe understood with the baby and all..." "Audrey couldn't have known about that thoguh when she wrote
the will." "Well, she did. It was all in teh letters she left us."
Lucky said. Liz walked abck into the living room."Well, we'll see all you
guys soon. I'd just like to thank you all for coming to Gram's funeral, I'm sure she would
have appreciated it. And thank ytou Bobbie, for hosting this." "It was no trouble," Bobbie said hugging Liz,"Audrey
was my friend." When Liz got back to where Nik and Lucky were standing, she was
surprised when Nik hugged her good-bye. But it soon became clear. "Bye Liz, I'm sorry about your grandmother," he said in a
normal voice but then said softly in her ear,"You'll be a great sister -in-law to
have." As he pulled back she glared at Lucky,"I thoguht we were
keeping it a secret." Luvky shrugged and said innocently,"And who told him about your
pregnancy before even telling me." Liz stuck out her tongue in a childlike gesture but accepted his
answer. They waved goodbye to everyone and left. ******************************************************* As they entered the apartment, Lucky shut the door and swooped Liz
up into a tight embrace. He lowered his lips to hers. Their kissing was unrestrained as they didn't ahve to worry about
any interruptions. They picked off right where they had left off in the library. "Lucky,"she began as his hands made their way under her
shirt, "Can we do this, I mean will the baby be okay." Lucky nodded, removing her shirt entirely,"Liz, we can do this
until your water breaks." She grinned and kissed his neck. |
