Til The Moment You Were Mine

I remember thinking love was a fool's game

I've played it smart so many times, but that all changed
From the moment you were mine
 

Lucky laid in bed.  The surroundings were so familiar to him  He was, once again, in Elizabeth's old bedroom.  Where he slept on the floor for weeks.
Where he gave her the tape he made.... and where she told him she was leaving to go to Europe after her parents found out about the rape.  Before she left, she had
made Audrey promise that she would let him stay when it was cold, but it was summer now, and Lucky still stayed in her room, when feeling lonely and sad.
He hadn't heard from Liz since she left.  Since that day when she turned around and told him that she loved him.  He heard from Audrey that Liz was forbidden to
talk to anyone in Port Charles, except, of course, Audrey.  It was supposidly apart of Liz's recovery.

"Lucky, you can't sleep?  You're shifting around quite some bit."  Audrey said walking in,

"Sorry if I woke you, Mrs. Hardy."

"No, no.  I was all ready up....... thinking about Elizabeth again?"  Lucky nodded.

"I sometimes wonder too.  I'll tell you what, I'm going to give her a call tomorrow, and let her know how you are."

"Thanks Mrs. Hardy."

"Now, get some sleep, huh?"  she said, then left.

Lucky laid back down, sighing.  He took out of his pocket, the necklace that Elizabeth gave him when she left.  After she did leave, nothing was right anymore, and
he was just moving along automatically.  He just wished she would be back soon.

Liz sat back in her seat, as the car continued to move.

"Joe, I still don't get why daddy had to pay you to bring me to Port Charles when I could have easily gone there myself.  I came from Colorad all right, didn't I?"

"That you did.  But this is Jeff's orders and how long have I been with your family?"

"Since the day Trevor buried Boris in the backyard and you found it for me.  Mom couldn't dare turn you away, or else I would have thrown a tantrum."

Joe smiled, "You're grandmother will be so excited that Sarah's marrying."

"No.  I think she'll think Sarah's crazy like I do."

"But you like Ryan, don't you?"

"Even so, marrying him?  I'm surprised that Sarah likes the guy daddy introduced to her."

Joe looked up at the rearview mirror, at Liz, "So tell me the truth.  How many times did you want to leave and run away from your parents?"

"Everyday.  I hated it, and you know it."

".... We won't hit Port Charles for several hours.  Why don't you sleep?"

"Because when I close my eyes, they won't stay shut."

"Or maybe because as much as you want to go to Port Charles, you're afraid to."

That night, after stopping at the PC Grill for dinner, Joe drove Liz to Audrey's house.

"I'm going back to the hotel so you can be with your grandmother."

"Thanks Joe."  she said getting out of the car.  She took out her keys and went inside to find it empty.

"Oh, I should have called."  she sighed reaching for the phone to call the hospital.

"Well, can you tell her to call home?  Her granddaughter Elizabeth is back, so could you get her to call me?  Thanks, bye."   she said.
After leaving her luggage at the side, she tiredly went upstairs to her room, changed, and fell asleep.

Lucky staggered through the empty streets.  On his way to Elizabeth's house.  He knew that Audrey was at the hospital, but he also hoped that she called Elizabeth
to put his mind at ease.  He slowly crept up the stairs, and to his surprise, found Elizabeth sleeping in the bed.
 

One moment in time
And I knew why I had waited to so long
One look in your eyes
Meant forever from that moment on
 

He had never seen anyone so beautiful.  He was afraid to move, thinking it could be a dream.  Elizabeth opened her eyes and felt a presence in the room.  She
looked up and saw Lucky.  She had to bite her lip from crying as Lucky hurried towards her gathering her in his arms as though he would never let her go.

"I missed you.... G*d, I've missed you so much."  he told her stroking her hair.

Liz closed her eyes, "I missed you too."

As Lucky finally released her from his embrace he asked her, "Why are you here?  I thought.... wouldn't Audrey know that you were gonna be back?"

"No, I left last minute."

"You didn't run away did you?"

"No.  I came without looking behind my shoulders, don't worry.  I have to pick Gram up for something."

"Oh?  For what?"

"It doesn't matter.  Tell me, how is everyone?"

"Everyone is fine, and I am too.... now that you're back."

Liz smiled, "Why are you in my house?"

"Your grandmother gave me a key."

"I take it that she let you stay here?"

"Yeah."

"... It's summer Lucky.  Gram hasn't said anything?"

"Hey, what can I say?  I'm full of charm."  Liz laughed.

"Seriously Elizabeth, I come and sleep here often.  Some nights when I can't sleep, I come here to be close to you.  When I missed you too much."

"I wish I had someplace to run to when I missed you."

Lucky and Elizabeth shifted on the bed, as Elizabeth adjusted the blankets, "How long are you staying here in my room?"

"As long as you'd like.  I cam leave now and go back to the boxcar, or stay here until morning."

"How about.... if you stay here-- forever?"  liz asked closing her eyes, ready ti fall asleep.

"Forever sounds good."  Lucky told her as they both fell asleep.

"So Sarah's getting married?"  Lucky exclaimed.

"Can you believe it?  Ryan, her fiance, seems nice though."  Liz replied making her bed.

"Well that's good.... so, when are you going back."

"Not anytime soon."  she said as Lucky helped her.

"Thanks."  she told him, "I'm meeting your aunt Bobbie in 15 minutes.  Think I can make it?"

"Where?"

"The hospital."

"Well, if someone doesn't give you a distraction."

"Now, who would do a silly thing like that?"  Liz asked teasingly.

"I don't know, I could think of a few people."

"Okay, ha ha, very funny," Liz gave in, "Let's go."

After Lucky dropped her off, Liz caught up with Bobbie, "Hi." she greeted her.

"Hi Liz." she said giving Elizabeth a hug, "I headr from Audrey that Sarah's getting married."

"Yeah, she's pretty excited."

Suddenly Bobbie's pager went on.

"Oh.  I'll be right back, I promise."   she said, then left.

"Liz.  Hi."

Elizabeth turned around, "Emily, how are you?"

"Good."

"I've seen in so many magazines.  You look beautiful."

"Thanks.  When did you get back?

"Yesterday."

"Have you seen Lucky?"

"Uh huh.  Last night."

".....How long are you staying Liz, because from what I've heard, you're only here to pick up your grandmother, then leave.  I am happy that you're here..."

"Em, what are you saying?"

"Are you just gonna walk in and out of Lucky's life like that?  Because if you are, you have to realize he cares for you a lot.   To have you leave... I'm just looking out
for my friend.  Both of them."

"Elizabeth, you haven't said a word since we left the hospital.  Are you okay?"

Liz was quiet for a moment, then said, "I'm leaving tomorrow with Gram.  I'm going back to Europe."

"What--- I thought we had time... a couple of days together."

"We don't Lucky.  We never will."   The sound of Elizabeth's voice scared him.  He took her hand and asked, "Elizabeth, tell me, what's bothering you?"

"I'm not even suppose to be with you Lucky.   My dad... he doesn't like Port Charles and the people here.  I... I might never come back once I leave."

"Then don't leave."

"But I have to... Sarah's wedding..."

"Elizabeth, angel, you're not telling me something."

Liz took a deep breath, "I think you shouldn't love me anymore, or.. or at least care.  I don't want you to.  I want you to find someone, who's actually in Port
Charles.  Who's everything I can't be for you, because you deserve her love, Lucky.   Not mine... never mine."  she said, then giving one last look, she left leaving
Lucky speechless.

Elizabeth sat on her bed staring at her suitcases.   She had packed up everything and was waiting for night to pass.  As much as she tried, she couldn't get Lucky out
of her mind.  And she hoped that now, Lucky would be mad at her, and wouldn't see her until it's too late, and she had all ready left.  The phone rang suddenly and
Liz turned on the lamp to answer it,

"Hello?"

"Hi, Lizzie.  I'm just calling to tell you." her father said

"Tell me what?"

"How happy I am that you're willing to forget Port Charles.  Ryan told me that he know a nice young man that's perfect for you to meet."

"Okay.."  she said slowly.

"Good, I'll arrange a meeting for you two.   Is Joe still staying at the hotel?"

"No, Gram moved him here."

"Okay, well then I'll see yousoon.   Bye."

"Bye dad."  Liz sighed and hung up.   She contemplated on whether she wanted to go to Bosnia under her father's watchful eye, or stay in Port Charles, even though
Lucky will never speak to her again.  She realized she wanted neither.  So she dragged her suitcases downstairs and out the door.  After shutting the trunk of the
jeep, Joe drove them down in, Liz searched for her keys.

"You're leaving me now?  Without a goodbye, or even me to give you a good questioning?"  a voice asked.

"Lucky."  she said softly.

"Yeah."

"Shouldn't you be asleep?"

"And didn't you say you were leaving tomorrow?"

Elizabeth looked away.

"Wait-- your grandmother's asleep.   You're....you're leaving everyone just like that?  You're running away?"

"I'm just leaving?"

"Where?"

"I don't know.  Anywhere but here.   But Bosnia." she said taking out her keys, finally.  She opened the car door, but Lucky closed it shut.

"Lucky--"

"No.  I want you to tell me.  What was today all about?  Why are you leaving me, and why did you say all those awful things when you know they aren't true?"

"They are true, Lucky.  Emily was right.   If I go back to Bosnia, I'm never coming back.  My father won't allow it.   He'll lock me up and choose me boyfriends, or
make me love someone that I don't, and G*d, it's started all ready.  We can't be together Lucky.  It's been a whole year since I left.  Don't tell me that the thought of
giving up on me hasn't crossed your mind.  Or that you thought another girl was prettier than me."

"Elizabeth, I love you."

"You and me, Lucky, we haven't known each other that long.  You don't know me."

"I know that you're lying right now.  That you want--"

"I want you to go.  I'm leaving and I'm never coming back."

"No, Elizabeth please, what you said earlier, you're wrong.  So wrong.  You're everything to me.  You're my soulmate and even if I might not believe in destiny, I
know that we were destined to be together--."

"Maybe not in this life time--"

"We deserve each other."

"I don't deserve you Lucky.  You should be falling in love with an innocent, beautiful girl, who's pure.  I'm none of those things.  You need a strong, brave, and
wonderful--"

"And those you are.  I fell in love with you.  Trust me.  Look at me Elizabeth-- look at me."  he cupped her chin in his hands.

"I love you, because you are the most amamzing person and you're the best thing that's ever happened."

"..... I'm still leaving.  You can't change my mind."

"Elizabeth--- look, you know I love you right?   I mean truly, truly understand."

She nodded.

"Then I'm going with you."

"Where?"

"Wherever you're going."

"Lucky, what about you're family?"

"You're my family now.  Now get in the car."

"Okay...... hey Lucky?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you.  For what you said, and I believe you.  You have that look in your eye.  That one look in your eye, where I know it means forever."

"And forever it is."  Lucky replied.
