Chapter 1:

Emily Bowen-Quartermaine laughed as she ran up the school steps.

"Lucky Spencer, that is the lamest joke I have ever heard."

"Oh, like you could do any better?"

"Anyone could do better." Emily grinned as she opened the door.

Inside the large school, kids were getting ready for their last class of the day. Emily stopped at her gray locker and dropped off her coat and bookbag.

"What are we doing after school today?" Lucky asked, leaning against a nearby locker.

Emily shrugged as she got out her needed books. "I have to pack."

"For what?"

Emily turned to face her friend. "I told you, I'm going to the island for a few weeks."

Lucky groaned. "Again? You went there last spring. I thought that we were going to hang out this summer."

"Lucky, that was a year ago. Besides, I really want to go. I miss it there."

Lucky sighed as Emily shut her locker. She started down the hall and he hurried to catch up.

"Lucky," she said as she tried to move out of the way in the crowded hallway. "You know, you can come if you want. It'll only be a few weeks and it's just Jason, Carly, Michael, and me."

"None of the Q's?"

Emily laughed as someone brushed past her. "None of them. Trust me, Lucky, I wouldn't even think of going if I knew they were gonna be there."

"Well, that's a relief."

"So?"

"So, what?" Lucky asked as they stopped in front of Emily's classroom.

"Are you going to come?"

Lucky grinned. "Sure, why not. It could be fun."

Emily smiled as she hugged her books to her chest.

"Great. Meet me at my locker at three!" She called after her friend.

The crowd lessened as the warning bell rang. Kids rushed to their classes, afraid of being late. Emily walked inside and sat at her desk. Already awaiting the days 'til they could get out of Port Charles and into the warm sunshine of the islands.
