Chapter 4:

Lucky stood there beating himself up inside. He should have told her, but maybe she already knew. Maybe his little sister was right. Maybe Emily did love him. But how could he find out. How could he discover and prove that he and Emily were what was always meant to be.

Lucky: I should have told her. I had a chance and I blew it! I can’t believe I did that!

Lulu sat on her bed, she was trying to remember all the romantic words and phases Liz had used in the stories she had made up for her. She had two pieces of paper in front of her. She had a plan, she had a mission. She had to get Lucky and Emily together.

She wrote each a note signing the others name. Tomorrow at the party at the hospital they would get them and the message to meet in the Chapel.

The next afternoon:

Emily was dressed in jeans, a white turtle-neck and a holiday sweater. As she and Elizabeth decorated the room. Lulu came in with Laura.

Lulu: Emily!

She ran towards Emily. Emily scooped her up.

Emily: What is it kiddo.

Lulu: (hands Emily the folded piece of paper)This is for you. Read it when your alone.

Emily: (takes the paper) Okay….

Emily, Laura and Liz finish decorating and the party gets underway. Joe Scanlon is dressed up at Santa and Alan reads the Christmas story. Lucky comes in and Lulu slithers over to him. She takes out another folded piece of paper and hands it to him. About fifteen minutes later both Lucky and Emily read the note’s. Knowing that the hand writing is not of an adult they both become curious as to what young Lesley Lu is up to and follow the directions. A half hour after the party, Lucky and Emily both ventured down to the chapel.

As Lucky enters no one is around. He walks to the front and sits in the front pew. A few moments later Emily comes in and sees him. Her heart is pounding,

Emily: Lucky?

Lucky: (turns) Emily, Lulu send you here?

Emily: Yeah, you?

Lucky: Yeah, I think I know what my baby sister is up to.

Emily: What would that be?

Lucky: Trying to set us up.

Emily: (starts to walk towards him) Oh, she’s been up to that with you to?

Lucky: You mean I’m not the only one she’s been trying to convince that you and I are in love.

Emily: Not at all. It’s such a silly thought, I have no idea where she got it.

Lucky: She mentioned something about graduation night.

Emily: (pauses) She what?

Lucky: (smiles) She has this idea that you tried to stop me from leaving that night. (looks down at his feet) Any idea where she got it?

Emily: (sits down next to him) Yeah, I do. (turns to face him) I told her that graduation night I…I…drove to the airport and tried to find away to stop you. I called after you but you didn’t hear me.

Lucky: (looks up) I did hear you, I thought…I thought it was just wishful thinking on my part.

Emily: (surprised) What?

Lucky: When I hugged you that afternoon, I wanted to pull you closer and kiss you, kiss you deeply, and passionately.

Emily: (tears start to fall from her eyes) I wanted you to do that to.

Lucky: Really? (wipes a tear away with his thumb.) What about the other night?

Emily: I wanted you to wrap your arms around me, pull me close to you. So close that we couldn’t tell who’s heartbeat was who’s and for you to kiss me.

Lucky: Em, I have to tell you something.

Emily: (stands) Don’t Lucky.

Lucky: Why?

Emily: Because, if you tell me what I want to hear, everything…EVERYTHING will be different. I’m marrying your brother new years eve. We had our chance but never knew it. It’s to late.

Lucky: Do you love him?

Emily: Yeah I do.

Lucky: Do you love me?

Emily: I…I…
