A Second Chance

“Come on, Liz.  You have to come,” Emily said into the phone convincingly to her best friend.  “It’s the biggest night of the year! It wouldn’t be the same without you.”  For the first time, Port Charles High and Port Charles University were holding the prom together.  Since Emily and her boyfriend, Juan, went to PCH and Elizabeth went to PCU, they could go together and Elizabeth wouldn’t feel as out of place as she would if it were just a dance at PCU.
“Em, I don’t know,” Elizabeth said uncertainly.  “It wouldn’t feel right.  I haven’t been to a dance in forever, and the last time I really wanted to go…” Her voice trailed off.  “And besides, I wouldn’t have a date.  It wouldn’t feel right without Lucky anyway.”  Elizabeth missed Lucky more than ever now that a lot of Nikolas’s time was taken up trying to get his marriage to Katherine annulled.
“You could take Nikolas.  Or, you could take Sly, Lucky’s cousin.  He’s in our school now.”  Emily was sure that if Elizabeth was going to go, she would take Nikolas.  She just hoped he was free that night.  He had been kind of unsociable ever since the Katherine thing.  “You need to come.”
“Fine,” Elizabeth agreed.  “I’ll call Nikolas and see what he says.  But if he can’t go, then I’m not going.  O.K?”   Elizabeth had never met Lucky’s cousin Sly, and she didn’t feel like meeting someone new right now, someone who didn’t know what had happened to all four of them in the last two years.  Juan was already too much.  They’d have to talk to him about everything soon.
