| Chapter 5: ''So where do
we go now, Mr. Spencer?''
Lucky looked at his date in surprise.
''At two in the morning? I highly doubt that anything is open.''
''Oh, but you must have something planned.'' She smiled flirtatiously as she
linked her arm through his and grasped his hand tightly.
The rain had just let up, and dampness filled the air. The grass was moist and
small mud puddles dotted the field of grass.
''Should I?'' Lucky smiled secretively
''Well, even if you don't,'' Elizabeth leaned her had on his shoulder as she
gazed about with a look of peacefulness on her face, ''this night has been the
most wonderful night of my life so far.''
Lucky smiled as he watched her, leading the way.
Suddenly, Elizabeth straightened. ''Lucky, where are we going?''
''You'll see.'' Was his only reply.
As they passed a group of trees and a small stream, Elizabeth gasped with
delight. ''The boxcar!''
Running towards the car, she saw two candles set up on top of a blanket. A
picnic basket was set aside and the blanket was set with dishes and utensils.
Whirling around, Elizabeth smiled happily. Reaching up, she gave him a kiss.
''You, Lucky Spencer, are the most incredible guy in the world.''
''And you, Elizabeth Webber, are the most incredible girl in the universe.''
After helping Liz up, they seated themselves on the blanket. Lucky pulled out
a lighter and lit the candles. As the candles lit up the boxcar, Liz looked
about.
''Well, the paint has chipped away, but you can still make out most of it.''
Her eyes traveled over the pictures she had painted when Lucky had stayed
there. A television, a couch, and a furnace...all of it was still
recognizable.
''Seeing how it's been almost a year now, it is surprising.'' Lucky busied
himself with getting out the food he had brought from one of the most
expensive restaurants in town.
''So, what do you think of this night now?'' he asked.
Elizabeth smiled as she leaned over to kiss him again. ''Still the best. When
I'm...''she thought for a moment, ''let's say thirty. Yes, when I'm thirty, I
promise that I will remember every detail.''
''And you still do, don't you?''
Elizabeth smiled as she looked up from the photo album.
''I told you that I would never forget that night.'' She paused. ''or you.
Lucky, you were my first love and I was devastated when we broke up.
Especially after-''
Lucky interrupted, understanding. ''Especially when we promised to be together
forever.''
Liz thoughtfully stared down at her engagement ring. ''I always thought that
you were the one, but then there was Brandon...''
Lucky looked up at his closest friend as she continued to silently stare at
the pictures.
And then there was Emily, he thought to himself.
''I will never forget that night.'' Elizabeth finished.
Emily looked up at Nikolas and their eyes met.
Or the weeks that followed, she silently added.
''Carly.''
''What-what are you doing back?'' the woman stammered growing nervous.
''He came for a visit.'' Another person stepped through the door behind Carly.
''What?'' Sonny Corinthos asked, looking down at her worried expression.
''Surprised? Yeah, we all were when we heard that he had kidnapped Michael.
Weren't you, Jase?'' he called over the people who stood in front of him.
Jason didn't answer, as his eyes were locked on Carly's. Sonny moved towards
Jason, crossing the small gap that separated the two groups. He glanced at
Emily before turning around, a hint of apology in his eyes.
''You see,'' he continued, facing the others once more. ''Jason didn't know
that he had 'kidnapped' Michael. He believed that his son's'' is eyes flicked
over to AJ as he emphasized the word, ''mother was going to take the next
plane. It was all a-a misunderstanding, shall we call it? So, there are two
things we learn from this ordeal. One-Jason will not be charged with anything
and Taggert will not get involved. And
two-'' he turned to Carly, a fake smile appearing on his face. ''You're a
liar.''
The room filled with angry shouts. Furious, Carly hollered, ''How dare you! AJ
is Michael's father and everyone knows that Jason took him away.''
''Oh!'' Sonny said as if finally understanding. ''You mean now he's Michael's
father. Yeah, yeah, I get it.'' He motioned to his bodyguards and Jason.
''Let's go.''
As Jason took Michael back from Emily, she looked at him pleadingly.
''Jason-''
He nodded. ''Come on.''
The foyer was suddenly interrupted in chaos.
''AJ, call the police right now!''
''Where the hell are you going with my son?''
''And where do you think you're going young lady?''
And then there was Monica, pleading with her to stay.
Hurrying after Jason and Sonny, Emily reached out for Nikolas' hand. Rushing
out the door, she tried to block out the cries of her angry family members.
Climbing into the limo beside Jason and Nikolas, she attempted to avoid
Sonny's gaze. She stared out the window as the car pulled out of the driveway,
watching as the world went past.
''You can stay in the guest room for as long as you'd like,'' Jason said,
setting Michael's baby bag on the floor. Emily nodded and turned to Nikolas.
''I'm sorry that this wasn't the perfect ending tonight.''
Nikolas reached over and squeezed her hand gently. ''No apologies.''
Sonny cleared his throat behind them. ''Jason and I have some business to take
care of.''
''Will you be alright here, Emily?'' Jason asked, coming back downstairs from
putting Michael to sleep. ''Pete's right outside if you need anything...''
''I'll be fine.''
Knowing fully well that this was true, he and Sonny left.
Emily turned to Nikolas. ''Well, I'm probably just going to go to sleep.''
''How about one last dance?'' To end the night perfectly,'' he added.
''I would love that.'' She smiled as Nikolas walked over to the radio and
turned the dial to a station playing soft music. He walked over to Emily and
put his hands around her waist.
''Wait a minute.'' Emil stepped back as Nikolas watched her in confusion. She
kicked off her shoes and he laughed as she walked back into his arms. Laying
her head down on his shoulder, she closed her eyes.
''You know what I figure?''
Nikolas loosened his grip and pulled back slightly. ''What's that?''
Emily lifted her head from his shoulder. ''Ever fairy tale has a Prince
Charming.''
Understanding, Nikolas smiled to himself and rested his chin atop her head.
They danced silently after that; slowly as another song filled the air.
They painted up your secrets
With the lies they told you
And the least they ever gave you
Was the most you ever knew
He tightened his grip around her waist, pulling her closer to him. The twist
in her hair had begun to fall out, he noticed, and her curls tumbled
gracefully around her shoulders.
And I wonder where these dreams go
When the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming
No one's listening anyway
Closing her eyes, Emily could feel herself almost floating in Nikolas' arms.
Never had she felt so comfortable before, so safe. Almost as if by being in
his arms, he could protect her from all the lies, all the anger, all the hurt.
Your voice is small and fading
And you hide in here unknown
And your mother loves your father
'Cause she's got nowhere to go
The night did seem to be ending perfectly, as all of the memories from earlier
before seemed to vanish as she lost herself in the moment. She wanted to stay
locked in time, at this very instant, where all of her worries were swept away
by the music, the dancing, and the person.
And she wonders where these dreams go
'Cause the world got in her way
What's the point ever trying
Nothing's changing anyway
As Nikolas looked at the clock over her shoulder and saw the time, he pulled
away and looked into Emily's eyes. ''It's after four.''
Emily nodded and dropped her arms.
''I'll see you tomorrow.'' Nikolas told her. He smiled and bent down to give
her a kiss on the cheek. Without a word, Emily turned and headed towards the
stairs. Nikolas himself reached for the doorknob, but stopped and turned
around to find Emily seating herself at a chair by the window. She must not
have realized that he was still there, for she only stared at the sleeping
town.
They press their lips against you
And you love the lies that they say
And I tried so hard to reach you
But you're falling anyway
Smiling to himself, Nikolas watched her in admiration as her eyes swept over
the town, lost in her thoughts. After a moment, he turned around and walked
out the door.
Nikolas turned to the CD player as it continued to play the music from their
teenage years. Facing Emily, the man gestured to the music player.
''This music-''
Emily nodded and avoided his gaze. ''It is the same song.'' She responded.
''Just like Liz, I never forgot that night.''
She didn't want to say anymore, not wanting to admit what she was feeling. So,
she took a sip of her wine and turned to look out the window. Elizabeth and
Lucky exchanged glances as the four friends sat in silence.
And you know I see right through you
'Cause the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming
You're not listening anyway
